Programs And Initiatives


Dealing with youth in schools as well as tertiary institutions, our educational activities target youth mostly, and specifically, from remote and rural areas. They are facilitated by our vehicle called RURAL STUDENTS ASSOCIATION (RSA) which is a student chapter whose main purpose of existence is to develop, organize and promote ideas and programmes that will enhance adequate development of the rural students either solely or in collaboration with government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community based organizations, international and/or foreign agencies. That is what RSA is responsible for.

Rural Career Tour

Partnering with the Department of Basic and Higher Education as well as Science and Technology, RCET is an outreach initiative by rural students undertaken with the schools across KZN province and beyond where they come from. The program entails subject choice and information on career fields available for each chosen subject stream. Taking place from April to August annually, our RSA members from tertiary institutions in South Africa visits rural schools to share information on tertiary access and success programs available at their respective universities.

Rez-Tour Motivation

Bringing all residence students of each institution under one roof, Rez-Tour Motivation is the premier educational visit on inspiring, energizing and influencing youth. Also targeting first year students in general who are from
remote rural areas, Rez-Tour® is a mass media campaign aimed at bridging the gap between higher and tertiary education by ensuring a smooth transition through an approach that is centred on self-awareness, moral and youth
regeneration. It is an initiative forging an ethical, goal orientated and results driven society.

Exemption Matric Centre

Exemption Matric Centre is an upgrading tuition centre assisting learners who would want to increase their chances of tertiary access by rewriting some of their matric modules.
It boasts a spectrum of good quality educators and tutors who have been head-hunted and hand-picked based on their qualifications, experience and passion for the subjects that theyteach

Cikoza Ngosiba™

is mass media creative writing campaign aimed at emerging writers scripting in African indigenous languages. It is a collaborative endeavour initiated for purposes of nurturing, spreading and celebrating the spirit of creativity an
d creative writing among African youth and young adults while conserving our African languages and
literature. Through this we have established and nurtured reading and writing clubs in our rural communities through reading and writing seminars. It is through this initiative that we have also published multi-awards winning books some of which are read-live and some converted to radio dramas on Ukhozi FM as well as in some local radio stations across the
KZN province.

Top Notch Communications

Targeting youth from rural as well historically black townships and marginalized
communities, our Sports and Arts programs seek to equip our members to participate
competitively while exposing them to available economic opportunities on this field.
TOPNOTCH COMMUNICATIONS is our events management agency specializing in
coordinating our programs right from data collection, management and liaising our
participating institutions. TNC also have artist management as part of its services.

Molo Mhlob'am

Molo Mhlob’am is an inter-tertiary initiative aimed at assisting all our first-year members in
adapting to tertiary level as well as well as urban, especially Durban, lifestyle. Using sports as a social activity, the program aims to ease the transition of students from basic education to tertiary level while also bridging the gap between rural and urban students through a range of other presentations during the program.

Kwa-Mashu Schools Tournament

KST is an initiative by Rural Right NPC is promoting sports in our historical black townships. Characterized by a league of 8 schools from Kwa-Mashu, the tournament accommodates all sporting codes and commands an extensive support from the area.

Back-Home Mentorship (BHM™)

Back-Home Mentorship is an initiative involving motivation and mentorship by Rural Students Association (RSA)
from all our tertiary institutions to their schools of origin in rural areas. The Program pairs an RSA member with a learner aspiring for the same field as their mentor. Organized WhatsApp and text messages are used as modes of communication covering the subject matter, minimum points required for tertiary access. Through this initiative, our RSA members also visits their former schools to deliver motivational talks at assembles and functions.

Science Giants Awards (SGA’s)

Science Giants Awards (SGA’s) Targeting rural primary schools, grade 4 & 5, Science Giants Awards aims at
highlighting the importance of considering science and maths subjects for specialization and career purposes. The initiative awards excelling learners in these subjects and mentor them towards pursuing science until post matric.

Rural Easter Soccer Tournament (REST)

REST is one other sporting activity geared towards developing sports at grass root level and facilitating
participating in sports and recreation activities within disadvantaged schools focusing in farms and rural areas.
